January 8-12: Dr. Leddy and Daniel took a break from the Iowa winter to attend the Gordon Conference in Ventura, CA.

October: Daniel presented at Analytical Seminar. Daniel's title was "Is There an Optimal Waveform for Electrochemical Separations?"
August: Jacob Lyon successfully defends his Ph.D. thesis! Congratulations, Dr. Lyon!

April 15: The Leddy group welcomes Daniel L Parr IV to the group!
May 24-28: The Leddy group attended the spring ECS meeting in Chicago en masse. Jacob gave an oral presentation titled "Exploration of Ammonia Production in the Blue Green Algae by Bioelectrocatalytic Methods" and Krysti gave an oral presentation titled "Magnetoelectrocatalysis of the Oxygen Reduction Reaction (ORR)." Jeff, Nadeesha, and Matt presented posters titled "Modeling Standing Waves in a Thin Layer Sonoelectrochemical System," "Activity of Nafion," and "Electrode for Voltammetric Evaluation of Insoluble Particles," respectively. Many Leddy group alumni were also present for a mini reunion, including Perry Motsegood, Heung Chan Lee, Luke Haverhals, Shelley Minteer, and Stephen Maldonado.
May 15: The Leddy group graduated Ph.D. student Krysti Knoche. Krysti's dissertation title was "Density Gradient Films, Lanthanide Electrochemistry, and Magnetic Field Effects on Hydrogen Evolution, Oxygen Evolution, and Lanthanide Electrochemistry." She has accepted a postdoc position in the Minteer lab at the University of Utah.

December 16: Nadeesha Rathuwadu passed her comprehensive exam - she is now officially a Ph.D. candidate!
December 15: Matt Lovander passed his comprehensive exam - he is now officially a Ph.D. candidate!
December 10: The Leddy group graduated Master's student Emily Null! Emily's thesis title was "Temperature Effects on the Potential Window of Water and Acetonitrile and Heterogeneous Electron Transfer Rates of Outer Sphere Redox Probes."
November 11: Dr. Leddy and Krysti Knoche attended the Technology Association of Iowa Women of Innovation awards dinner. Dr. Leddy was a finalist in the Research Innovation and Leadership category, and Krysti won the Collegian Innovation and Leadership category.
October 5-9: Dr. Leddy attended the fall ECS meeting in Cancun. She gave two oral presentations titled "Notions of Magnetoelectrocatalysis" and "Catalysis of the Oxygen Reduction Reaction: Thin Layer Sonoelectrochemistry."
October 3: Nadeesha Rathuwadu, Matt Lovander, Jeff Landgren, Anthony Lucio (Shaw Group), and Krysti Knoche all traveled to the ECS Twin Cities regional meeting, held at the 3M Innovation Center in St. Paul, where they presented posters.
May 16: Dr. Leddy's three year term as an ECS Vice President begins!
May 11-15: Jeff Landgren and Krysti Knoche attended the spring ECS meeting in Orlando with Dr. Leddy. Dr. Leddy gave two oral presentations titled "Graded Density Ion Exchange Polymer Films on Electrodes: Impacts on Structure and Transport" and "Thin Layer Sonoelectrochemistry." Jeff gave an oral presentation titled "Sonoelectrochemistry: Modeling Acoustic Energy in a Thin Layer System," and Krysti gave an oral presentation titled "Study of Magnetic Effects on Lanthanide Electrochemistry."
March 3-5: Jeff Landgren and Krysti Knoche attended Pittcon in Chicago with Dr. Leddy. Jeff presented a poster titled "Convolution of Currents at Electroinactive Films on Electrodes," and Krysti gave an oral presentation titled "Cyclic Voltammetry of Lanthanides at Boron-Doped Diamond Electrodes" in SEAC: The First Student Session in Electroanalysis. Shelley Minteer is the new SEAC (Society for Electroanalytical Society) President Elect. Stephen Maldonado received the SEAC Young Investigator Award. Tim Paschkewitz was elected to the SEAC Board of Directors and will serve as Activities Coordinator.
October 28-31: Dr. Leddy and Krysti Knoche attended the fall ECS (Electrochemical Society) meeting in San Francisco. Dr. Leddy gave an oral presentation titled "Modeling of Magnetic Enhancement of Homogeneous Electron Transfer Reactions" and Krysti gave an oral presentation titled "Magnetically Enhanced Hydrogen Evolution Reaction (HER) on Non-Catalytic Electrodes." Dr. Leddy and Shelley Minteer were both made ECS Fellows. Dr. Leddy is a candidate for ECS Vice President.
October 3: The Leddy group welcomes new group member Nadeesha Rathuwadu.

June 29: Emily Mrugacz is now Emily Null. Congratulations on the wedding!
May 13: Undergrad Ryan Loris graduated with his B.S. in Chemistry. He completed an honors thesis titled "Magnetic Effects on MnO2/Zn Alkaline Batteries." Ryan will be teaching high school chemistry with Teach for America.
May 12-16: Emily Mrugacz and Krysti Knoche attended the ECS meeting in Toronto with Dr. Leddy. Krysti gave a talk titled "Cyclic Voltammetric Model and Simulation of Inert, Graded Density Films on Electrodes," Emily presented a poster titled "Breath Acetone as Assessment of Ketoacidotic Status," and Dr. Leddy gave a talk titled "Hydrogen Storage in Palladium: Magnetically Improved Interfacial Kinetics."
April 5: Jessica Jewett Reed received the 2012 L.B. Sims Outstanding Master’s Thesis Award for her thesis titled “Magnetic Effects on Hydride Storage in Palladium.”
January 16: The Leddy group welcomes new group members Jacob Lyon and Matt Lovander.

May 12: The Leddy group graduated 4 PhD students (Chet Duda, Garett Lee, Perry Motsegood, and Tim Paschkewitz) and a Master’s student (Jessica Jewett Reed). Jessica will be pursuing a PhD in Chemical Education at Iowa State University. Perry has accepted a postdoctoral position at Argonne National Labs. Garett has accepted a postdoctoral position at the University of Utah. Tim has accepted a position as a Research Sales Scientist with Pine Instruments.
